Surely one of the oldest instincts is, seeking warm cosy shelter to have as our home base, to help us relax and feel safe and for many of us, enjoy time with our family.

From our earliest memories, through to the moment, we read these words, we know what home is.

So let’s see what happens when we stop and ponder what home means to you, and inspire some thoughtful writing in the process.

Let’s get started…

1. What symbolizes home?

2. Do you think the ways people interact with each other in your household impact whether it feels like a home to you? How?

3. What words do you associate with home?

4. Do you dream of moving somewhere else? Where? Why?

5. If so, what are you waiting for? What holds you back?

6. Are you literally or metaphorically being called home right now?  Will you go?

7. Sounds/Tastes/Aromas/Textures/Sights: Choose one of these senses and tune your awareness to it over the next few days when you are home. Write down your sense of home sweet home.

8. If your physical space could say one thing to you right now, what would it be telling you? What would you like your living space to say to you every day?

15. If another young person joined your household, how could you help make them feel at home?

16. Where would you like to make your home one day?

17. Some adventurous people outfit a van to make it liveable, with bed, washing and cooking facilities. Do you think a van could feel like home for you? Why?

18. How does your house’s surroundings impact how much like “home” your accommodation feels like?

19. Where do you feel the most relaxed?

20. List all the places you lived and think about who you were during that time.

21. How old were you? What did you learn during that time? What were the things you were going through?

22. Which one of those felt the most home to you? Why?

23. Remember what it was like to live there. Do you still feel that sense of home when you think about it now?

24. Which one of those felt the least like home to you? Why?

25. Thinking beyond a structure, how much do you feel at ease in the city you currently live in?
