Decide What Success Means To You

12/29/2015 By Linda Hampton Leave a Comment

How do you define your personal success?

Some may define success as prosperity and having a great deal of m56af11e19530afa045618f741b6a7858oney, others may feel successful if they’re loved and adored by many. Some people define success as being healthy and giving back to the community, while others define success as owning a great deal of material things.

But how do you define success?

Everyone defines success in their own special way. Your own individual success is what makes you and your accomplishments unique. The stay-at-home-mom may define success as being able to meet her family’s needs throughout the entire day until everyone goes to bed. The career woman may define success as being advanced within her company or even starting her own business. The athlete may define success as winning the next game. On the other hand, there are some who define success in simply living and savoring each and every day.

It’s important to understand how you view success. What would you like to get out of life? Questions are essential to ask yourself to discover your internal driving force.

Self-Reflection Questions to consider in order to find out what you desire in life.

Consider the following questions:

“Where would I like to be in 5 years?” This isn’t the question “Where do you see myself in 5 years?” Think about what you want in five years. If you ask yourself where you see yourself, you’re simply going to see yourself as a glorified version of now.

“How do you define happiness in your career?” It’s crucial to evaluate whether or not you’re feeling satisfied in your work.

“How do I get to the places I want to be?” You need to know how to get to wherever it is you would like to be. You can’t go there blindly, or expect it to fall into place all on its own. You have to be proactive, to make things happen.

“What areas in my life do I want to succeed?” We all wish to succeed in more than only one area in our lives, so set multiple goals. For instance, one goal could relate to your career while another goal might concern to your relationship with friends or family.

“What are my goals in life?” This coincides with what areas you would like to succeed, but you must actually write down your goals and set real milestones that you can achieve otherwise your goals will be merely wishes.

“What sort of balance do I need in my life?” It’s essential for you to find balance between work, family, and personal time to feel fulfilled. If you have a tendency to over-extend yourself, it’s important to find an equal balance, so no area of your life is forgotten.

Evaluate Yourself and Your Needs

Those self-reflection questions open the door for you to discover and define what success means to you. Others cannot decide for you. If you follow someone else’s blueprints of success and it doesn’t fit with your personality, then you’re going to be unhappy. You have to evaluate yourself and put your aspirations, wants, and needs into perspective. After all, your success is yours. No one can make this decision for you!
