How to Believe In Yourself Even During Tough Times

01/02/2016 By Linda Hampton Leave a Comment

As an entrepreneur when you’re building a business you’re bound to go through tough times.  It’s inevitable.  Maybe you’ve gone through plenty of tough times and difficult situations on the  J O B but think that surely in n entrepreneur or business owner  I “should” be able to handle this situation.  But that’s not always the case, at least not easily.

The way you see yourself will determine your level of success or lack thereof. An optimistic state of mind will you avoid problems before they become catastrophes

The challenge is believing in yourself when you feel like everything around you everything you believed in seems to be shattering into a million tiny pieces.  Like Humpty Dumpty you can’t put it back together again.  Believing in better days when today is a disaster requires you to have faith those days will inevitably come again.

Try these strategies to help your commitments remain unshakable when you feel the world closing in when times are tough:

1.  Think about what you did in past.  Having dealt with problems in the past how did you overcome the most undesirable situations.  Clearly, you have the tools and talent to do so or you would be here now. Your ability to overcome these situations speaks loudly for your strength and abilities.

  • In some circumstances, you may be able to imitate past solutions by revising them to fit your current situation. Or you’ll know what not to do from lesions learned your past.

  • The past doesn’t have to dictate your future. It’s possible to reflect on the past without working up old, unresolved feelings. If you begin to feel negative emotions, move onto another technique, or simply change your state by moving your body.. standup;.. jump.. smile or look up at the ceiling.  These movements cause an immediate change in your state or feeling,  even a subtle change is better than remaining in negative unresolved feelings

2.   Act immediately. Rather than retreating into your personal cocoon when a situation becomes intimidating, address it immediately. The longer you allow a situation to sit without attention, the more urgent it becomes, and the tenser you will feel about the situation.  A perfect example is debt.

  • Only you can be the source of a solution. You are in charge of managing your life and ensuring its success. Take pride in this power. After all, you’re free – no one commands you! Your life is what you make it. And you can use your power to start off on the right foot each and every day.

3.      Believe you will make it through.  I know sounds easy but both of us know it’s not. But you’ve found your way out of a tough situation before you can do it again.  There is always a way to get your head above the water – always even if you have to go through to get to the other side.  Each time you dig you way out the next time becomes easier because of the experience you gained.  And like it or not there will be a next time.

·         Don’t be afraid to lean on your supporters. Your children, spouse, and extended family are cheering you on every day. Chances are that no one doubts your abilities the way you do. In fact, they have faith in your abilities because you’ve proven your strength time and time again.

  • As Bernice Johnson Reagon once said, “Life’s challenges are not supposed to paralyze you; they’re supposed to help you discover who you are.”

·         Now is as good of a time as any to show yourself what you’re made of. Confirm to yourself that you’re as strong and tenacious as you suspect yourself to be.

Everyone encounters hard times especially when you’re an entrepreneur- it’s simply a fact of life. And a very major part of how you address hard times depends on your mindset and your ability to believe in yourself, even in the toughest of times.

Your mindset can be your best friend or your worst enemy. If you allow your mindset to shift into negative territory, you’ll end up with negative results. Remember, like karma you attract the energy you give!
